Microsoft has updated the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. With the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, you can remove the Windows Installer configuration information of a program. If you encounter difficulties with installation (setup), you want to remove the Windows Installer configuration information for your program. For example, you may have to remove the Windows Installer configuration information of a program if you try to add (or remove) any component of your program when you first install your program. Time was not included.

The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does not:

  • Remove the Windows Installer.
  • Remove any program files installed by Windows Installer such as Microsoft Office 2003.

The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does:

Provide a dialog box where you can select one or more programs that were installed by the Windows Installer. You select the programs on the Installed Products list in the Windows Installer Cleanup dialog box. After making this choice, the utility removes only Windows Installer configuration information related to these programs.
Remove the files and registry settings that create Windows Installer configuration information for the programs you select.
If you use this utility to remove the Windows Installer configuration information for your program and you intend to reinstall the program, you should install the program in the same folder where you originally installed. This stops the copying of files to your hard disk or disks.
